December TBR: How I did it

 Hi!!! :)

 Another month has passed and now it's time to look back to see how I did it with my December TBR pile. Here is the list I wanted to read:

1.-  Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I've read 150 and I hope to finish this month.

2.- The map of time by F.J. Palma.I've read half of the book and I hope to have time to finish it this month.

3.- Scones and sensibility by Lindsay Eland.

4.- Liesl and Po by Lauren Oliver.

5.- The sisterhood of traveling pants by Anne Brashares.

And this is what happened:

Well, this month out of 5 I've only read two books :( 

- Anna and the French kiss which I loved it although some parts made me unhappy and anxious.

- Scones and Sensibility which I liked it but I'd hoped some different.

Mmm I hope to do better next month. At least I could accomplish my goodreads challenge :)

Today the questions are: What was the first book you read in 2011 and the last you finished in 2011? How do you feel about these books? Would you recommend them to other readers?

Well, the first book I've read in 2011 was N is for Noose by Sue Grafton. I love mystery you can't imagine what horrible films I've watched only because of the mystery. In this case I've hear good things about Grafton's books, so I decided to read it. I liked the mystery, the detective Kinsey Millhone and how Sue Grafton developed the story but what I enjoy most is when nothing it's  what it seems or when the mystery is solved and things are cleared up but in this book I didn't find those things. So, I was a little disappointed. I like most Agatha Christie's books for that reason. I'd recommend the book to people like action but not to people who like a surprise or a twist at the end of the book.

The last book I've read in 2011 was Scones and Sensibility by Lindsay Eland. I liked the book although I expected more. I discovered that it was aimed to children so maybe I didn't enjoy too much, but, still, I liked it. I felt identified with the main character, I'm a daydreamer too, but I don't involve in people lives like she does :) I didn't like that she was always talking old fashioned. At first it's funny but then, I got a bit tired of it.  I recommend this to children and people who like love stories.

Top Ten Favorite Books I Read in 2011

Today, it's about Top Ten Favorite book I Read in 2011. Here is my list:

1.- Anna and the French kiss by Stephanie Perkins. That's for sure. I didn't notice how quick I flipped pages. I really enjoyed the book although I have had different feelings for this book: exasperation, frustration, want to hurl across the room, hug it so hard, etc.

2.- Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I really enjoyed this book and I'm impatiently waiting for the second part. It's a pity I couldn't find it in English and I had to read it in Spanish, but still I really really liked it.

3.- Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I have strong feelings for this book too. I love everything: the plot, the characters. I read it quite quickly wanting that it never ended :(

4.- The vanishing of Katharina Linden by Helen Grant. Another amazing book I've read this year. I took it with me in a travel and I couldn't put the book down. I've read very quickly. I enjoyed the mystery which the book contains. I highly recommend it :)

5.- Anya's ghost by Vera Brosgol. I love this book too. Great pictures and great story. In one word AWESOME!

6.- Bad karma by David Safier. I love David Safier's books although I have to read them in Spanish. As usual, Safier made me laugh and enjoyed with the story. Two thumbs up! :)

7.- Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. I like wolves, vampires and strange creatures but I am not exactly a huge fan. I was reluctant to read this one because it was about wolves and since the huge success of Twilight series, I was tired of hearing about vampires and were wolves. Anyway, I started to read it and I loved it. I loved so much that I borrowed the second part from the library and while I was reading the second part I bought the third part.

Merry Christmas to everyone :) Today it's Monday so I'm going to share with you what I've read last week, what I'm reading right now and what I want to read next.

As the last week I didn't finish any book :( Lately I don't feel like reading much although I'm reading.

This week I'm reading two books:

- Scones and sensibility by Eland. I'm about to finish it and I hope to finish it before the year ends. I like the book but sometimes the main character is so stubborn that it makes me lose interest in the book. 

- The book of (even more) awesome by Neil Pasricha. I love this book although I sometimes find many words that I don't know :( The book always makes me crack up :)

Next in my pile Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver.

1.- Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I found this book in a book shop very cheap and I was so stupid that I didn't buy it :( I hope Santa brings me now :)

2.- Pride and Prejudice by Nancy Butler. I think it's a graphic novel but I'm not totally sure. I've enjoyed so much reading Pride and prejudice by Jane Austen that I want to read this one.

So, this is me, it's a bit short this time but I think that the rest of the books I want I can find them in the library or buy them or I already own a copy.

It's Monday and it's time to share with you what I've read last week, what I'm reading right now and what I'm going to read next.

Last week I haven't finished any book :( I promised myself to read more but well, it's OK, maybe next week.

This week I'm reading two books:

            - Scones and sensibility by Lindsay Eland. So far, I like the book although I've only read 50 pages. I heard some people couldn't finish it, well, we'll see. 

           - The book of (even more) AWESOME by Neil Pasricha. I've started this book in summer and left it without ceremony. Now, I rescue it from my bookshelf and I'm enjoying so much that I can't stop reading it. I love it. 

Next in my pile Liesl and Po by Lauren Oliver. I'm craving to read this book. I love Lauren Oliver and I love Delirium so, I think this could be another amazing book to read. I can't just wait :)

Book Chat: Series vs. Stand-alone books

This book chat is hosted by Misty over at The Book Rat.

Well, in my case I always go for a good story and I don't mind it's a series or it's only a book. Having saying this,  I definitely prefer stand-alone books. I've had some disappointments reading series.

With the series, I think the author writes a first amazing book and then the publisher offers him or her an enormous sum of money (and I totally understand) that they don't reject it. I am not saying that it always happens in this way but it feels like this. I've only read a few series and in all of them I think the first book is awesome and then the rest is worst and I could be happy with only the first one.

The series I've read are:

• Ender's game by Orson Scott Card. Incredible first book. I liked it so much that I bought the book. The second book was ok, the third one was horrible and the last one was ok.

• Memorias de Idhun by Laura Gallego. Well in this case I have to say I'm ok with the three of them but I'd like the author had shorten the books because I think the story could be told in less pages.

• Dragonlance chronicles by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. I loved the first but the rest, they were worst and at the end of the book nothing happens! I think it'd better if only there was one book.

• The wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater. I like the way Maggie Stiefvater writes and I want to read more of her books, but I'd prefer if it was only the first one. The first one is just perfect.

Books I'd love they would be a series.

• Anna and the French kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I love the story but I want to know more, at least a bit more but that's not gonna happen :(

• Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I'd love to know more about the main character.

Top Ten Books I Want To Give As Gifts (and to who...even if you won't actually give them!)

This week is about the ten books I want to give as a gift and here is my list:

1.- Agnes Cecilia by Maria Gripe. AWESOME book I read when I was 12. I highly recommend it. I believe that I'd give this to one of my cousins since it's a strange story.

2.- Anya's ghost by Vera Brosgol. Another incredible book which I'd give as a present to another cousin. She likes this kind of literature so I believe she'd enjoy it.

3.- The catcher in the rye by J.D. Salinger. I've read this book three times and I have my own copy in English. I consider it a great book and I'd give it as a present for my partner. He hasn't read yet and I think he probably liked it.

4.- Bridget Jones' diary by Helen Fielding. this would be for my mum although she already read it. She enjoyed so much that I'd buy it or maybe another similar.

5.- Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Waterson. This would be for a friend who considers himself as Calvin. Yes, he is and I think he'd like to have his own copy.

6. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. This would be for a friend of mine. I think she'd like to read it and it's probably she has watched the film.

7.- Coraline by Neil Gaiman. This book would be for a friend who really likes reading Neil Gaiman. I think she read most of the Gaiman's books but maybe this one hasn't read yet.

8.- El hereje by Miguel Delibes. This one would be for my grandfather. I think he'd enjoy reading about Spain.

9.- Jesus loves me by David Safier. This one for my sister. I believe she'd really like it because it's really really funny.

10.- My afternoons with Margueritte by Marie-Sabine Roger. This one would be for my grandmother. I don't know why I think she probably liked reading about this. Margueritte reminds me of her.

Another week in which I share with you what I've read, what I'm reading right now and what I intend to read next.

Last week I finished Anna and the French kiss by Stephanie Perkins. What a  amazing book! I have many feelings on this book. I felt frustration so many times aaahg! But, in the end, I loved it.

This week I'm reading Scones and Sensibility by Lindsay Eland. I just start it but I haven't heard good reviews of it, but, well I'll give it a try. So far, I like it, we'll see :)


Next in my pile Liesl and Po by the amazing Lauren Oliver. I am a bit disappointed because Delirium wasn't between Goodreads' winners. I don't understand why. I vote for her and for the book.

TGIF Question

This week the question is:  Book to Movie: Which book turn movie do you feel did the best adaptation? What about the worst?

It's curious because in both cases the author of the books is the same person: Arturo Pérez Reverte.

I think this movie El maestro de esgrima (The Fencing Master) is the best adaptation I've watched. It's very very similar to the book and both book and movie are very good. I highly recommend them. I enjoyed reading and watching them and they didn't let me down.

This is the other case. I loved reading La tabla de Flandes (The Flanders Panel). I didn't like to read thick books because I found them bored, what a mistake! I started reading this and I finished it very quickly. Later, I learned that it was a film so I borrowed from the video store and preparing myself to enjoy the film. At first, it's pretty similar to the book: there is a mystery hidden in a picture and the main character, a restorer, wants to discover. But then, the mystery is eliminated almost completely and the main character starts getting naked every ten seconds. I was shocked. The mystery is the most important part of the book and they eliminated without ceremony. Besides, I thought, since there are so many scenes when Kate Beckinsale is naked, that I'd borrowed the wrong tape :( At least the book was good.

 Well, this are my options, but what about yous? :)

Now, I'm reading Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. At first the book liked so much that I turned pages very quickly but now I'm tired of some situations .Well I've just read only 100 pages so I don't know much about the story, we'll see how the whole thing develops.

Today the TGIF Question is: When You're Not Reading: What occupies your time when your nose isn't stuck in a book?

Well, many things and here they are:

1.- Reading your blogs. How interesting they are! :) so I spend a lot of time reading them, watching videos and listening to music you put on them.

2.- Knitting. I make this on and off but it relaxes me a lot!

3.- Baking. I love making cakes, cookies, etc. I don't make much of this recently since I can't eat them and Christmas is so clooose but after that I'm going to try to make Cookie Moster Cupcakes. Cool! :)

4.- Studying English. Because of my job I need to learn English although I've always been good at English in school and high school so it's not a punishment. Besides, thanks to you for your blogs I've improved in my reading (of course, you write such amazing things and recommend such good books that it's impossible not to improve:)) In my listening, since I watch your videos without subtitles and look up words, for example quirky, pet peeve, etc. I hadn't any clue what they meant before. Thanks for following my blog, it makes me improve in writing plus I really enjoy talking about books :)  So, thanks, thanks, because you don't notice but I'm learning a lot from you, guys :)

5.- Fencing. I have just started taking classes and I'm not very good at it. It's very complicated because of the movements you have to do but it's very funny.

Top Ten Authors I'd Love To Have At My Thanksgiving Feast

Well, today is ten authors I'd love to have at my thanksgiving feast. Here is my list:

1.- Neil Gaiman. I've enjoyed so much with his  books that I want to include him.

2.- Paul Auster. The same with Paul Auster , he has a particular world and it would be really cool if I could discuss with him in the dinner.

3.- Miguel Delibes. I watched him in several interviews and I loved to listen him talking. It's a pity he died two years ago. So, I definitely put in this table.

4.- Carmen Martin Gaite. Another special author who died in 2000 who deserves all the attention. She has a very particular world and I looooooooooove it :)

5.- Charlotte Bronte. My favorite character is undoubtedly Jane Eyre so I really want to have her in my table.

Here I am a week more to share with you what I read, what I'm reading right now, what I am going to read next.

Last week I didn't finish any book but the previous one I finished Forever by Maggie Stiefvater. Although I liked it , I was a little disappointed in some parts because they were longer than I expected, but, anyway, the end I liked it :)

This week I'm reading Anna and the French kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I am so grateful to people like Misty talked in her blog about and made me buy it. I'm enjoying very much although at first I didn't like another story which the main character was a teenager. It's because I read so many books lately about teenagers that I'm a bit tired of it. But this one is great! :)

The comeback, TGIF Question and Book beginnings

Well, it's always nice that someone remembers you, specially if they give you a book ^^ These are my list of books I'm very grateful to receive. Thanks :)

The first book which comes to my mind it's this one : Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Now, I'm reading it and enjoying every page of it. So, thanks for this present :)

The second book is Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. A friend of mine gave me to me as a present. I'd already read the book but she gave to me to have the occasion to re-read as many times as I wanted. So, thanks a lot.

Another book which I've received is The golden book by Doris Lessing. I was looking for this book for ages and somebody found it and gave to me and in English :) Many thanks :) 

Finally, Coraline. I read this book in Spanish and I loved it, but somebody thought that it was really cool to have my own copy in English :)

2011 goodreads choice award!

Hi everyone!!! :)

I've just discovered Goodreads has an annual election for the book of the year. All the books seem so cool that you want to vote all of them :) and now, I can't wait for the results.

Lauren Oliver talks about this too in her blog. Two of her books are in the list, Delirium and Liesl & Po. Appparently, Delirium is in several categories. I enjoyed so much with Delirium that I decided to vote for it. Unfortunately, I haven't read Liesl & Po yet. So I didn't vote for this one. It's a pity because it's in my November TBR, but anyway, next time.

This time I finished 2:

Delirium by Lauren Oliver, which I really liked and I want to read the next part. I said I want it? I mean I really, really , really want to ^^ 

Twenty poems of love and a song of despair by Pablo Neruda. This book I also liked specially the last poem. I love it :)

Top Ten Books I Had VERY Strong Emotions About (cry, laugh, hurl across the room, etc.)

Well, this week is about what books made me cry or laugh or hurl and here is my list.

1.- Tuesday with Morrie by Mitch Albom. In some parts I laughed and in other parts I cried because everything in the book was so true and Morrie was such a wise person that it was impossible not to feel something.

2.- Flowers in the attic by Virginia Andrews. Puf! with this book I think I suffered all the moods. I felt hatred for some characters, I felt pity for others and I cried because it's a very sad story.

3.- Shit my dad says by Justin Halpern.With this book, I laughed especially at the beginning and at the end of the book. I laughed so much that I cried :)

4.- Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Puf! I suffered very much with this book when I felt something wrong was going to happen. I liked so much the characters that I didn't want something happened to them.

5.- Reads like a novel by Daniel Pennac. With this book, I felt freedom, freedom to do whatever you want. I liked very much reading it.

6.- Bad karma by David Safier. This book is really really funny. I laughed a lot and I almost cry at the beginning and at the end the book because it was so sad and beautiful at the same time :)

7.- Jesus loves me by David Safier. The same as the previous one. Maybe, I felt more identify with the main character of this book than the previous. In both cases, I laughed a loooooooooooot

8.- Open all nigh by David Tueba. In this case, I cried at the end because it was sooooo unfair and so sad at the same time.

This week I'm reading two book:

                   Forever by Maggie Stiefvater. I'm about to finish so I'm really excited to know what it's going to happen in the end.

                   The map of time by F.J. Palma. It's a great book but it's thick too, so I've been reading this book for over three weeks, I think.

Next I want to read

Top Ten Books To Read During Halloween

I've seen in several blogs the topic  what to read in Halloween so that gives me some time to look for books in my bookcases related to this day. What I've found is this:

1.- Mort by Terry Pratchett. I think this is not a scary story but it's related to Halloween because the main character is death. I haven't read yet so I'm not sure about that but I believe that t deserves to give it a try :)

2.- The picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I think this book is just the opposite to Mort. It's not exactly related to Halloween but it contains a scary story. I don't sure about that since I haven't read yet, but I think it's a good election for Halloween night.

3.- Something wicked this way comes by Ray Bradbury. I think I nailed it with this election. I think it's very very appropriated to this night because I think it's a scary story with strange characters (not sure about that) which happens in Halloween. Well, I think I choose the perfect moment to read. What you think?

4.- The turn of the Screw by Henry James. I've read this story before and I think Halloween is good day to re-read it. I don't remember very much about this story but it's scary for sure.

5.- The witches by Roald Dahl. I read this story when I was a child and I'll tell you it really scared me. I checked for some time if women around me were witches or not. I can assure you that none of them were. Later in my life I've found several ;) Well, now, I possess a copy in English, so I have the opportunity to re-read it and learn English in that special night :)

6.- Coraline by Neil Gaiman. In this case, I have already read the story which it scared much more than The witches and I was older. This is a very good option for Halloween because everything is dark and scary. I love it.

7.- Juniper Berry by Kozlowsky. Similar to Coraline but less scary. Strange things happen and a very intelligent girl has to solve them. I think it's appropriate for this night.

8.- Anya's ghost by Brosgol. Very good book with a ghost. Strange things happens in this book too in a normal life. Very appropriate too for this event.

9.- The last book I've chosen is Hallowe'en party by Agatha Christie. A murder happens in a Halloween party (well, it's what I think because of the tittle although I haven't read this book yet). I don't know it's very scary but I like the idea of things happens the same day I'm reading it :)

I think it's enough for me. It's time to go to bed (for me it's 5:46 a.m). I think when I wake up the read-a-thon will have finished :( i can't wait for the next one :)

2. How many books have you read so far? only one :( it could be worse, though

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? puf, if I can finish Forever, I'll be glad

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?No, really

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Puf, many. I've been sleepy the whole day, so I preferred to stop for a while.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?I like the challenges and people cheer me up. That was so sweet :)

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? No, I think It's great :)

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? As a reader, many things. I think I'd buy cokes and chocolate bars

9. Are you getting tired yet?Yes, but I'm going to stay for a while

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? mmm, I don't know. Try to disconnect for a while and indulge yourself with chocolate bars and good music :)

Now, I'm reading: The sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (first book) and I am also trying finishing reading Forever by Maggie Stiefvater.

Read-a-thon Hour 8

Well, I thought I did this better than I'm actually doing. This morning I got up a little cranky and sleepy. So, I didn't feel like reading a lot. Besides I had to do some unexpected errands. So far, I've only read ONE book: Mr Popper's penguins but at least,  I liked the book :)

Now, I', going to have dinner and keep reading to finish another book.

Read-a-thon Hour 1: Let's start :)

 Well, this is my first hour and my first cup of coffee :) To begin with this read-a-thon and I'm sharing with you something about me.

1)Where are you reading from today? From Spain

2)Three random facts about me… I'm not a morning person, I like Paul Auster's book and I love listening music in the evening.

3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? 4 and I hope to finish all of them, but I'm not sure

4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?well, I'd like to finish all the books.

5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time? no, I'm not, this is my first one, but I've heard that it's better if you leave small books and graphic novel for the end of the read-a-thon.

Dewey's read-a-thon is almost here. This is the first time I take part in one read-a-thon and I'm really excited about it. I haven't thought much about what things could need while I was reading.I nstead I've been thinking about the books I want to read Then I change my mind and I've chosen others and then I've changed my mind again and I've chosen others. Anyway, I have too many books to read so I'll see tomorrow what I'm going to read :)

Top Ten Books That Whose Titles Or Covers Made Me Buy It

  This week is about what books I've bought because I liked the cover or the title. So, this is the list:

1.- Scones and sensibility by Lindsay Eland. Well, in this case was both. I found very funny the title and I thought the cover was really cute. Check it out by yourselves.

 2.- The well of lost plots by Jasper Fforde. When I decided to buy a book by Fforde, I couldn't decide which one, but when I read this title I imagined the main character in a world with the most varied plots and I couldn't help buying it.

3.- An abundance of Katherines by John Green. The same happened to me with John Green. I wanted to buy two books by this author, one was obvious: Looking for Alaska because I've heard it was very good, but this one I bought it because I liked the title. I pictured the main character surrounded by millions and millions of Katherines.

4.- We sang it our way by Reginald Frary. In this case was both. I liked the title because the story is about a choir and I liked the cover.

5.- Angels by Marian Keyes. I bought this one because I liked the title in Spanish: Maggie sees the light. I thought she maybe realized about something important. I was intrigued.

6.- The book of (even more) awesome by Neil Pasricha. I saw this book in the blog Consumed by books and I really liked the title although I didn't know anything about the author.

7.- Bake sale by Sara Varon. It was the cover what it made me buy it. It's a cupcake making cupcakes with the help of an aubergine :) Check it out

It's Monday! What are *you* reading?

One more week and this is what I read last week, what I'm reading right now and what I intend to read next.

Last week I finished 4 books:

                         - The arrival by Shaun Tan. I tried this one because I heard of this author in Anne's blog . I saw the pictures and I loved them, so when I went to the library I looked for Shaun Tan's book and I found this one. It's only drawings, there isn't a word written on it, but it's so well done that you don't need it. I want to try other books by the same author. It's a very good option! :)

                        -  The housekeeper and the professor by Yoko Ogawa. I liked the book very much at first  but later I was a little disappointed. I liked the story but I didn't like when the main character talks about Maths or baseball. I am not very good at maths and I am not very interested in sports.

                        -  The invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. I loooove this book and I've become a huge fan of Brian Selznick. I really enjoyed reading it. I recommend to read this book because it's very peculiar and good.  The book is a mix of drawings, which are really really really good, and writing. Brian Selznick does both things very well.

where you can find the first pages of The invention of Hugo and the trailer of the movie has made based on the book, among other things. The director of the film is Martin Scorsese! :O

In this blog you'll find an interview of Brian Selznick. I really liked hearing him  talking about The invention of Hugo and other books. He speaks very well, he explains very well and he's nice.He speaks 20 minutes and you don't get tired :)

                        - Bake sale by Sara Varon. Wow another amazing book! At first, I was disappointing but little by little I got more and more interested. I didn't want to finish it :( I like Sara Varon writes and draws but the most important thing, she shares recipes. Now, I really want to try some and re-read the book :)

Now I'm reading 4 books:

                        - The map of the time by Félix J. Palma. This book is taking me a lot of time but it worths it. I like the story but it's a bit long. I wish the book had been divided in several tomes. 

                        - The symposium by Plato. 

                        - Introduction to Ancient Greece by Francisco Javier Gomez Espelosin.

                        - Forever by Maggie Stiefvater. I really like this book. I was a bit reluctant to read this part because Linger didn't like as much as Shiver but with this book, I'm enjoying very much.  

                      

Next,

                       - Mort by Terry Pratchett. I want to read another book by Terry Pratchett and this one is very appropriate for the month of Halloween. What do you think?
