Review: Tales of winter by Grégoire Solotareff

Hi everyone!!! :)

I hope you're very well and today I want to share with you what I think about this book:

Cuentos de Invierno

What is this book about?: This book is a compilation of very short story (2 or 3 pages long) and they are about the daily life of elves, animals and in some cases Santa Claus.

My thoughts:

One thing that I liked about this book was the fact that you could read, if you wanted, a story every day. There was even a date at the beginning of each story. I didn't do that because I had to return the book before the winter finished, but it'd be interested to do it in that way.

Also I liked that the characters were animals and elves. I tend to read a lot of contemporary and this book was an interesting change.

While I was reading it, I got sick and I liked that the stories were adventurous and curious events that happened to them more than something dramatic. I really appreciated that and I was glad I read it in that moment.

I think everybody would enjoy this book, especially children. Since the stories are very short you can read aloud one story every day.

Since I enjoy more contemporary and this one was more fantasy I liked it, but I didn't love it. He has more tales: spring tales, summer tales and fall tales and I'm going to read them in the season. I think it'd be fun to do it in this way :)

My rating: ***

Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine

Hi everyone!!! :)

I hope you're very well and today I want to share with you my thoughts on this book.

2657291

What this book is about? This book is about a man who realizes that, since he got divorced, he can't see his children as much as he wants. So, when he learns that his ex-wife wants to hire a housekeeper, he decides to dress up as a woman and apply for the job.

My thoughts:

I was very interested in reading this book because last year I re-watched the movie Mrs Doubtfire and watching it I learned that there was a book in which the movie was based. So, since I really enjoyed the movie, I was really excited to read this book.

So, the first thing I realised it was the fact that the book was going to be easy to read, but at the same time I realised that the book wasn't as funny as the movie. It wasn't funny at all.

I found the main character very stubborn. He was an adult, but he was behaving like a child. Whatever he did, he was in his rights because they were his children. It didn't matter what he was doing was illegal.

In the end, I decided to finish the book for two reasons. The first one was that I wanted to read something funny in the book, but that didn't happen and the second thing was I wanted to know what the point of the whole story was. In the movie you see the characters start listen to each an as a result they grow. But in the book, he was doing everything wrong and nobody was happy.

Overall, I thought the book was OK and it wasn't funny at all. I was going to give it 2 starts, but in the end I gave 2 and a half because the ending made up for the rest of the book.

Review: Three times the woman in grey by Carmen Pacheco

Hi everyone!!! :)

Today I want to share with you my thoughts about this book:

7296553

What this book is about?: It about an old man who was a policeman, but he is now retired. He likes observing people and after seeing a woman three times in the same day wearing grey, but different clothes, decides to start investigating. The next day, he meets a boy who is also investigating the case and they decide  to join forces to be able to solve the mystery quickly.

My thoughts:

I liked this book. Even though it was a children book it was difficult for to me to figure out what was going on. It was an interesting story and I think children and adult would enjoy.

I liked the fact that it was very engaging and easy to read. You could read it in just one day.

Also I liked the relationship between the man and the child. They created a great boundary between them and I liked the fact that they weren't related.

One thing I didn't like and it's something that annoyed me a little bit, it was the fact that the child was recovering from cancer. I think in this book was necessary in order to create a boundary between the main characters and to explain why the child didn't have friends, but I have to say that now it's really hard for me to pick up a book that I think it's one thing and nothing else. This book is a mystery case, but it also talked about cancer and death. I don't think that it is not a bad thing, but sometimes I just want to pick up a mystery book and I want to be just a mystery book. So, in this book I think it was OK to put that, but I wasn't thrilled about it.

My rating: *** stars

Review: The life and adventures of Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum

Hi everyone!!! :)

Today I want to share with you my thoughts of this book:

715058

What is this book about? It's the story of Santa Claus since he is a child until he is an old man and all that adventures that happen to him during that time.

My thoughts:

I have to point out that I am not a huge fun of fantasy. I like the genre, but it's not the first genre I normally pick up. What I love to read is contemporary and memoirs, books from I can learn things that I can apply in my life. OK so with that in mind this is my review.

I decided to pick it up this book because I thought it was going to be good and I was right. It was well-written and you don't notice it, but it feels like the author has been working hard to write this book. The chapters are well-structured and nothing is missing, everything is necessary to tell the story.

What I really liked was that you have the image of Santa Claus, what he is going to become, but when you start the book he is still a child, so you need to know the middle, how he became Santa Claus. So it's really interesting and fun to see how little by little this child grows and becomes Santa Claus. You see that one thing leads to another one and everything makes perfect sense. Like for instance the tradition of putting Christmas stockings. According to the book is because in this way Santa Claus doesn't need to look for the children' bedrooms and it takes him less time to put the presents.

What I missed was the fact that I couldn't feel related because everything was fantasy, but I had a great time reading it because it was interesting and easy to read. You can fly through it easily.

My rating was *** starts.

My recommendation: Pick it up if you like fantasy I think you're going to love it.

Bout of Books 15: update day 4

 Bout of Books

Hi everyone!!! :)

I hope you're very well and today I want to share with you how I'm doing in the Bout of books read-a-thon.

So at the beginning I was really happy because I was reading very much and I thought I was going to finish a lot of books in this read-a-thon.

But now I am having a "reading slump" where I see all the books I want to read and I'm not in the mood of reading them :(

So far I have read

7296553

Three times a woman in grey by Carmen Pachego. It's about a child and a old man that they decide to join forces to solve a mystery. It was an interesting read.

I hope to finish these two books before the read-a-thon finishes:

2657291

Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine. This one is about a man who gets divorced and he realises that he can't see his children as much as he wants. So when he learns that his ex-wife is going to hire a housekeeper, he decides to dress up as a woman and apply for the job. I know this story was bittersweet because of the movie, but I don't find it as funny as the movie and I kind of dislike the main character.

11061720

Tales of winter by Grégoire Solotareff. This one is a compilation of short stories.I like it so far, I found it interesting, but I'm not head over heels.

So, yes, this is me. Let me know how you are doing :)
